Hello, Colleagues!

Can anybody explain what is docbrowser for?

Read many materials, but did not catch the value for users and idea.

We have public folder and private folders, and when we start cv01n first screen asks us to create folder and this screen appears again and again and even when i use cv03n.

And what is the correct work and functionality?

read book from sap-press but the author avoided to explain this func again!

With ECC6.0,'Document Browser' and 'ACL Authorizations' were introduced as additional features in DMS.However, these new functionalities depend on the activation of the EA-PLM Extension.

Document browser offers flexibility to users to choose between different display behaviours in CV0X transactions. In the 'Browser' option,a navigation tree is displayed similar to your Windows Explorer. When the user chooses this option for the first time, the system prompts the user to create a PRIVATE FOLDER. By default,a PUBLIC FOLDER is already available. This is very similar to EasyDMS.In your case, the repetitive prompt is probably because you have not created a PRIVATE FOLDER.Hence,in summary,DocBrowser enables a user to easily navigate/browse through complex folder structures with relative ease.

Or int point for DMS and EasyDMS?

Can put it that way.In a way,it enables a user to process/manage DIR's either from the original R/3 screen or via the folder structure maintained in SAP Easy Document Management (based on the document structure),or both, within the same browser. It can be used effectively for maintainence of document/BoM structures.

Am in agreement with Kristoffer that managing complex folder structures is quite a challenge and creates sort of a dependency/handicap for navigating to a required doc(know that we always have Search though ).

Hi Dmitry,

You can find a documentation about this new features in the SAP Help Portal (help.sap.com):

> SAP ERP Central Component > Cross-Application Components > Document Management > Document Management > Document Browser

The browser is just a new functionality to provide the same navigation possibility in the DMS backend as in EasyDMS.

Best regards,

I don't see the benefit of this either!

I always recommend using the full text search functionality instead. Or searching using the meta-data in the DIR.

It's a mess to work with folders and at the best the user that saved the document in the folder knows where it's saved. After a while he probably can't remember that either. As for other SAP functionality, the benefit is not always there!
