you hve to first Save the Universe and than you can export the universe in the repository.

By defalut if another user has complete access on univer than he/she can import it modify it and than again export inti repository.

If you dont want that than you can lock the unverse before exporting it into reposotory so that no one can over right your universe.

There are other varius rights avialable in CMC pertaining to the universe access, modification, view. I would suggest you to contact your BO Admin to give perticular rights to that universe.

It is simple, import the Universe, do the changes you want, save and export.

The changes will be effective thereafter.

Ravi,

Please read the question. It is a new universe, so there isn't a universe to import!

Anyone else with Designer privileges will be able to change it.

Your main concerns are:

1/ Have you tested it by writing reports against it? Does it give the correct figures?

2/ Have you determined the security set up for this universe - who should have access to the data?

3/ Make sure that you set the correct security in the CMC - end users will need to be granted the appropriate privileges to both the universe and its data connection.

4/ Make sure that you are exporting it to the right folder - if you are not the BO architect, confirm this with the right person.

The main thing is to try using the universe from a user level - all names should be easily understood, queries should not prompt for contexts when measures are used and so on.

Hi Madhu,

Before exporting the universe to the repository just make sure File<< Save as-- Name(File Name) and the File <<Parameter Definition Tab--- Name(Long Name This is the name by which end users identify the universe in Webi) should be the same in order to avoid any kind of confusion, this is the best practice which is being followed by many universe designers.

Security part comes after exporting universe to the repository.

You can also track the how many times universe is exported to repository by keeping watch on Revision under summary Tab, you can also see the Last modified date and name of the modifier under the same tab with Name as Modified.

For security of universe you need to contact to your Bo Admin for setting up the proper rights.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,

Hi,

Regularly save your universes during a work session. When you save a universe, Universe Designer stores it as a fild with a .unv extension in your local fild system. This is usually a universe folder in the BusinessObjects installation path. Any changes you have made to the universe field are saved locally but are not propagated to the universe version in the repository until you choose to export it.

When you export the universe, the updated version is saved on the local fild system, but it is copied to the BusinessObjects repository as well. This version is then available to the end users connectin to the universe.

It is also made availabe to other universe designers who are authorized by the BusinessObjects Administrator to access it.

Regularly save your changes to a universe locally. When you have finished updating the universe, export the latest saved version to the repository.

If you choose to browse to a copy of that universe file on you local file system and open it directly in Universe Designer, the file may not be the latest version of the universe. If you want to make changes to a universe that has already been exported to the repository, do not open a universe file directly using File>Open menu. Instead, use File>Import to ensure that you are viewing the most recent version. Make your modification and export your universe again to make your changes available in the repository.

First you create a universe schema ( Joins, if there is any loops resolve it) and Explore the Classes and objects. before Exporting your Universe, check the universe either it is correct or not, by using check integrity option (File menu-->Tools--->Check integrity).

Now save it in your local machine then export to repository.

All the best,

Hai Madhu,

Do you actually want how to export universe into repository at desiner level (or) would you like to know the options that should be given and admin rights that should be given for exporting a universe?
