In most shops, there are at least one or more materials every day which fall below reorder point. It is therefore more common approach to run MRP 'periodically' (e.g., once a day, or once a week, or once a month) using Net change. Under these circumstances, only the materials which have planning file entries actually have MRP executed against them. As you probably know, any material which falls below reorder point automatically generates a planning file entry, and therefore becomes eligible for a net change mrp run.

Sowmya,

Not much to tell.

1. Assign appropriate Materials to appropriate MRP area.

2. Assign VB (or similar) MRP type to appropriate Materials. Enter the appropriate reorder point in each Material master.

2. Schedule MRP to run every night, or at a frequency that meets your business requirements. Select Net Change, select the MRP areas that meet your requirements.

3. Process new purchase reqs after MRP run. The only reqs you will get will be against materials where the onhand-stock-plus-firmed-receipts fall below the Reorder point you set in the Material master.
