Hi all,

I am new to Solution Manager and request you to clarify the following questions.

How to monitor SAP CRM application log error messages from Solution Manager using BPMon component?

What does it mean Satellite system? because I am seeing in lot manay places relevant BPmon monitoring?

We have SAP CRM, ERP and Solution Manager landscape, (and we don't have any Satellite system or Client), can we using BPmon component to monitor error messages in CRM Application Log (SLG1)?

How to setup and configure BPMon and what are pre-requisites?

Should we get any permission or license from SAP to setup and use BPmon?

What is the relation between BPmon and CCMS?

where can I get Best practices for this configuration?

Your help will be highly appreciated.

Best regards,

Hi Venkat,

I can answer some of your questions.

"What does it mean Satellite system? because I am seeing in lot manay places relevant BPmon monitoring?"

Satellite system is a term used to define all those systems connected to your solution manager. As the solution manager is used to monitor and manage other system it is natural that these systems are connected to it. So all the system connected to your solution manager are "satellite systems", "managed systems" or "connected systems". These are all terms to describe the same thing, a system connected to your solman.

"We have SAP CRM, ERP and Solution Manager landscape, (and we don't have any Satellite system or Client), can we using BPmon component to monitor error messages in CRM Application Log (SLG1)?"

You can use for example the EWA report in your solution manager to monitor issues with your satellite systems(you CRM, ERP, etc). The EWA configuration and description is given at service.sap.com/ewa. It's a complete report that runs weekly in your solution manager providing information about all the systems in the landscape and gives alerts about the issues found and also analyses trend about the performance, database, activity, etc.

Please check service.sap.com/solutionmanager -> Media Library for documentation on the solution manager scenarios and also information on how to configure them.

SAP note "784752 - BPMon in SAP Solution Manager - prerequisites" may give you useful information too.

Regards,

Daniel.

Hi Venkat

I guess now you are clear about Satellite system.

So I skip this explanation. (In your case Satellite system = ERP, CRM).

1.You can monitor application log by using BPMon.

BPMon has functionality to monitor application log.

In more detail, please check following document.

http://www.service.sap.com/bpm

=>Media Library

==>Technical Information

Business Process Monitoring - Setup Roadmap

Setup Guide - Business Process Monitoring (Page 40)

*This setup document is bit old. So if your solution manager is more than

SPs23, you have more capability. Like checking specific variable of

application log.

Also recommend to check "Business Process Monitoring - Setup Roadmap" in

same location.

2.How to setup and pre-requisite.

Above 2 documents descrives steps.

Also check note 521820 and 784752

3.>Should we get any permission or license from SAP to setup and use BPmon?

No permission and license required.

4.Relation between BPmon and CCMS?

BPMon related to CCMS in 2 sense.

(1). BPMon uses some part of CCMS infrastructure. So when you configure BPMon,

CCMS MTEs are created in behind. But this does not mean BPMon just simply

use CCMS MTEs that are already available.

There are many special development for BPMon. But still due to some technical

relation, BPMon uses some part of infrastructure of CCMS

(2). BPMon can include CCMS MTEs that are already avaialble in the BPMon alert

framework. For example, in CRM if you use some CCMS MTE to monitor VMC

for pricing. And VMC availability is related to your CRM business processes.

In your BPMon, you also want to know the availability of VMC. Then you can

simply copy and past the MTE address in BPMon, and you can display the MTE

information in your BPMon.

5.>where can I get Best practices for this configuration?

http://www.service.sap.com/bpm

=>Media Library

Under technical area, you can find out many technical documents for specific monitor.

As 1st step, I recommend you to check following documents.

(Under the area Technical Information)

- Business Process Monitoring - Setup Roadmap

- Setup Guide - Business Process Monitoring

- BPM Template Solution - ST-SER2010_1

- Template Solution for BPMon - Detailled Description

(Under the area Customer Information)

-Business Process & Interface Monitoring - Part 2

*This documents introduce all monitor that is avaialble in BPMon as template.

Best Regards
