Deleting data in tables BDCP and BDCPS

We have accumulated more than 100,000,000 rows in the table BDCP and similarly in the table BDCPS since 2001 (system has been operational since 1996).

We are upgrading to EhP 4, and converting the data takes four hours, which is too long. We would like to avoid the lost time.

Most of the data has a value of "MATERIAL" in the column CDOBJCL in the table BDCP.

Is there any problem if we delete the BDCP-CDOBJCL=:MATERIAL" data from both tables? We have seen no value to it, in our research of SAP programming so far. We would like to delete it prior to the upgrade.

Also, we are researching what configuration switch was inadvertently set to cause the data to be created. Any ideas?

Hi Scott, table you are mentioning are used to store change pointers when some business event changes the data. When BW loads take in place those tabs are checked by ALE and delta data is sent to BW.

Depending on version also table BDCP2 may be used - see note 305462.

Therefore you should be careful and to do not delete entries not flagged PROCESS = X.See 706478 - Preventing Basis tables from increasing considerably relevant for tab reorganizing.
