Export Database (10.2) / Import Database (11.2)

Hi all

We must do an os-upgrade for one of our CRM-landscape.

In this case we also want to upgrade Oracle 10.2.0.4 to Oracle 11.2.0.1.

Is it possible to export the database with sapinst on oracle 10.2 an then reinstall the system on the other host with oracle 11.2?

sap version will be the same.

Yes we know. We where sure that this case will work. But then we found the SAP note 1478060.

In Chapter III stands:

-

III New Installation / System Copy for SAP Systems Based on SAP NetWeaver 7.<x>:

1 General

Use the installation guide for the SAP system that you want to install. Currently, the source database must have the same release number as the target database (11.2.0).

Now we are a little confuded.

This is valid if you do backup/restore method, in that case both systems need to have the same version.

If you do an R3load export, the resulting files are database (version) and operating system independent. So you can safely import them into a higher version.

Hi,

You could either do the following :

1) Upgrade database on the source system and then do OS/DB Migration

2) Do the OS/DB Migration to the target system with the 10G software installed and patched

and then upgrade to 11G
