How to realign the released background jobs when we change the time zone

Former Member

Hi Experts,

We are planning to migrate our ECC & BI Production systems from India

to Kuwait Datacenter, presently in our India Proudciton system the

background jobs are up and running as per IST time zone. Time differnce

between IST and Kuwait is 2 hours 30 Min.

There are 1000's of released jobs as per the existing time zone IST.

When we migrate to Kuwait the time zone will be changed to KSA and the

released jobs will still be running as per the old time zone.

Is there a standard way of realiging the background jobs that are

released with the new time zone both in ECC and BI systems.

Thanks & best regards,

Sudhakar.k

Hi Sudhakar,

do you have business reasons for switching the system time zone (e.g. there are a significant number of users located in other time zones joining the system) ?

Just because of the location change of the server I would not recommend to change system time ... and if you build up a truly global system, it might be better to use UTC as system time (this is the SAP recommendation)....

Hi,

Once you are planned to do SAP Migration activity you need to follow the pre requisits.

First before you do the activity one of the pre-requisit is paus all Background jobs by running the reports.

BTCTRNS1, BTCTRNS2

Second once you finish the activity you release the jobs after you change the SAP TIME ZONE and system Time.

Third you compare the SAP TIME with the System time and re-schedule all the jobs according to your timings.

Hi,

Agreed with Suzit. Put all your jobs on hold. Change your time zone on OS side after bouncing the SAP system, when you will reboot your system it will automatically pick the new time zone and your job will start as per new timings.

HI Sudhakar,

Firstly you have to change the system and user timezone using tcode STZAC.

Also you need to change the timezone in operating system level.

If it is in Unix flavor you check with Unix administrator. Now once it is changed,

if you bounce the SAP system it should be taken the new time zone. And accordingly

the jobs should be operated. But I am not very sure as I never happen to come across

such scenarios.

If you can afford, you can test once with any of the test server for testing purpose.

Normally when daylight saving comes yearly twice, if system is restarted, it accepts new

time difference.

May be some one having this experience can guide you better.

Please try to find if some SAP notes are available.

I just shared my opinion, but I am not sure on this.

Regards,

Sujit.
