HI All,
we have a PRD server on sap r3 4.7 with ms sql 2000 (OS windows 2003 32bit ) & also 2 instance ( central & Diaglog ) is running on same system. we took daily backup full backup & log backup after 30 min.
Due to short of resorces, now we want to shift our prd server to new server.
Please guide what is the easy way to build a new server.
can we install ms sql 2005 on new server ?
is this right way
1 ) install ms sql 2005
2) install sap central instance with same sid as old prd
3) install diaglog instance on same prd server.
4) restore full backup of old prd
5) restore log of prd
Best Regards

Hi,
You should do the installation of dialog instance after system is up after restoring the database.
Thanks

Dear Imran,
When you are planning for performing database upgrade from 2000 to 2005 you have to check SAP requirement.
i.e. You sap basis patch level, For SQL Server 2005, only the BIN2 collation ( SQL_Latin1_General_CP850_BIN2 ) is permitted for all systems (Unicode, non-Unicode, Java or non-Java). The BIN collation is no longer supported.
If you ask me i suggest.
1. prepare your source database and application ready for MS SQL 2005
2. Use database specific method for backup and restore. as per sap system copy guide.
3. install OS and MS SQL 2005 on target system
4. install CI as per sap system copy guide with database restore
5. perform post system ready activity as per sap system copy guide
6. install DI
