Slow performance on BI system converted from as/400 to Linux

Former Member

Not many details about the issue yet but basically BI performance on a number of queries is far worse after the old as/400 SAP system was converted to Linux/DB2. Both SAP systems were on as/400 and now reside on similar hardware running Linux/DB2.

Old System: OS400 V6R1 with db2/400 V6R1 running BW 3.5 Unicode system∙ New system: Linux RHEL 5.5 with DB2 LUW 9.7 Fix Pack 3 running BW 3.5 Unicode system

Has anyone come across similar problems? Sorting order obviously is different between the old and new platforms.

Thanks

Matt

Hello Matt,

This happens especially in BW, because every database has different approaches in running BW queries. On iSeries, they are using EVI indexes with EVI-Stage-2 support - that runs pretty fine nowadays.

On other each other platform, different things are usual => you need a DB6 platform expert with BW knowledge in order to tune the system - most likely use table partitioning etc.

This is a lot less severe in ERP, but in BW this is always interesting ...

Hi Matt,

the first part of my last answer is missing, as SAP denied to post it ... let's check, if it is ok now ...

I would say, that is normal during a migration project. That are one of the points, that you have to cope with.

Hi Matt,

the first part of my last answer is missing, as SAP denied to post it ... let's check, if it is ok now ... and now the last past ...

I guess, you are doing the tests on Linux now and the PRD on iSeries, it is not that bad & u r g e n t right now. (If you should be productive already, you missed necessary steps during your project.)

(oh no .... it was the word "u r g e n t" - as the system thought, that I asked for fast help ....)

Hi Volker

This was amusing...I did not know until now that you could not use the word "u r g e n t" in a message...

Good info...

But how about these synonyms??

Pressing

imperative

Burning

Critical

Vital

Thanks

Hi Abhi,

yes, you are correct )

Do not tell these words "too loud" - if they will be included as well, it becomes really crazy to write postings - especially, as you can nowhere detect the specific word, that craetes the issues - it was just try & error on my site ...
