MAIN_SHDRUN/ACT_UPG running for a longer time

Hi Experts,

I am upgrading my system to EHP5. I am into Pre-Processing step and the MAIN_SHDRUN/ACT_UPG phase has been running since last couple of days. The database size which it had asked initially was 140 GB. Please let me know how to expedite this phase. Also let me know how can I check why this phase is taking so long to complete.

Thanks,

RJ

Hello there.

I was facing a similar problem. In my case note “1614802 - Mass activation hangs during INSERT in the table DDFTX” was the solution. I’ve just killed the process that was doing the insert and it ran normally afterward.

I am also facing the same issue

Phase MAIN_SHDRUN/ACT_UPG is taking too much time

Is there any updates from OSS?

Hi All.

Do not use this option :

To optimize memory usage during activation, you can use so-called "memory-optimized activation" Do you want to use this possibillity? << Default : No.

Please keep going in this option.

and.. I always setup number of R3TRANS processes and BATCH process : 10~12

Cheers.

Hi,

This phase generally takes a long time but does not take number of days to complete. How much number of R3trans and background processes you have given in upgrade ?

Thanks

Hi,

It's quite less. Is there anything in the logs ? How much time have elapsed in this phase ?

Thanks

Hi Sunny,

Not more logs are getting generated, only 1 or 2 files are getting updated. Also everyday I can see the CPU utilization for the same.

MEMSAPehpi.dat is one the file which is getting updated.

Also my system is a 32 bit system...does this has any impact on this?

Thanks,

Hi,

Now I understand because your system is 32 bit. Why don't you move to 64 bit ?

I think you should raise an OSS call with SAP.

Thanks
