SAP PLM 7.0 Using CAD desktop

HI SAP PLM 7.0 Experts

We are anticipating for Implementing SAP PLM 7.0 With EHP-4 though we understand EHP-5 is under rampup.

but Due to technical reason we do not intend to immediately migrate to EHP-5.

We intend to use SAP CAD integration under PLM 7.0. but understanding some limitation in features in EHP4 against EHP5 for E-Desktop we intent to use the CAD-Desktop under PLM 7.0. (though we understand these features are available in EHP5)

My query is how can we call the CAD Desktop gui interface in NWBC & can we use both CDESK for creating CAD Structure & use EDESK for display the structure for different user roles.

i know this is a unconventional way to go forward but but would like to know from experts if such a scenario is possible & what issues would we encounter going forward?

i would like to get into a more technical discussion if i get a positive response.

Thanks

johnpp

Hi John,

I am sure there is a possibility of calling CAD DESKTOP from NWBC, well i do not know how exactly that be done.

For your query on Engg desktop, thats certainly not unconventional. For visualizations CAD files, EDESK will be a better way to go since its a browser based application and you dont need to have SAP GUI.

But if we talk of a CAD Engineer, he can typically work on a thick client (SAP GUI based CAD DESKTOP) and checkin/out files.
