Hi,
since there was no de-install information in the upgrade to Oracle 10,
and there is still no de-install information in the guide for oracle 11,
I have situations, where a system still has 3 ORACLE_HOMES and 3 software
loactions in the inventory.
Since note 1525025 - Oracle 11.2.0: Oracle Software Deinstallation
now states not to use runinstaller any more to de-install (11g?) software,
I am a bit uncomfortable on how to get rid of the old stuff.
I have an active version 11.2.0.2 running from a seperate HOME.
I want to get rid of a 9.2 and a 10.2. HOME from the inventory.
Approach one.
Start runInstaller version 11g and de-install Home 9.2 and 10.2
Since I do not touch 11g, the restriction should not apply? (Wrong?)
Approach two
Start runInstaller version 10g and de-install Home 9.2 and 10.2
Approach three
Proceed as stated in note 1525025.
Detach HOME 9.2 and 10.2 with 11g installer and delete all files manually
As far as processing is concerned, I am comfortable with each approach,
but I do not like ending up with a defective inventory because of
- version 11 Installer is doing any harm to the old Oracle_Home stuff in the inventory.
- version 10 installer is doing any harm to the (maybe) migrated inventory, which now has version 11.
Anybody already stepped down one of these roads?

backup the inventory, login as orasid, backup the 10g directory to a different location, delete the source and delelte all the 10g related env variables as well.
Let me know.

Hi,
did my first de-install on a sandbox today using the
detach 10g-HOME (with 11g installer) and "remove manually" approach.
Did work out ok, Iventory is at least readable and shows not problems.
If it really did work out ok, I will see with the next patchset I think.
Did not try the same for a 9er version yet.

Hi,
got official feed back meanwhile, that older versions should be de-installed with
the runInstaller of the corresponding release. So allthough the other method works as
stated before, it should be done using the other way.
Did not like it that much, because there remain still some items left, that need to be deleted manually.
