Hello,

Which one gives better collaboration capability, Microsoft SharePoint or cFolder? If you can share any document which list the individual advantages or comparison, it will be great help.

Thanks,

Avinash

Hi,

SAP has always taken a knock for its lack of usability and SAP content management is no different. Whilst working in the GUI may not be an issue for a maintenance engineer, working in the GUI is not practical for a document controller or non-SAP literate staff. They don't work with anything other than MS Office and Google interfaces on a daily basis so trying to get them to use SAP transaction codes is difficult. Products like SAP Easy Document Management work, but have vastly scaled down functionality and still require SAP Workflow to function so users will always be forced to work in the SAP GUI at some point.

To understand how important usability to users, lets consider that SharePoint has always lagged behind the big 3 when it comes to functionality but it had two things going for it - usability and cost. In the case of cost, most companies were already licensed for the functionality but this hasn't stopped companies from spending additional money on third party workflow products. The key reason for the success is the ease of use largely attributed to the seamless integration SharePoint offers into the Microsoft suite of products that users work with on a daily basis.

Hope you get some idea.

Thanks

Hi Avinash and Arbind,

I guess Arvind have seen cFolders, its intended for use over collaboration.

What he has written is SAP DMS, for which UI is GUI by default. User can use explorer to check in document with cFolders but again not a must have.

cFolders is web based tool, different from DMS or web DMS. It offers status management, automatic notifications, competitive Vs Collaborative scenarios to name few.

A must have additiona point to cFolders is that it can be linked to SAP DMS and hence linked to ERP system of any enterprise.

Its more used by enterprises which work with external partners, as it offers precise authorizations along with check in - Check out functionality.

Competitive scenarios are very useful for supplier/vendor types of situations. Im nt very sure about sharepoint.

Both are basically work as FTP.

One additional point is with CAD softwares integrated to SAP DMS, a visual mock up is possible with cFolders w/o use of licensed software such as Autocad, EAI viewer also known as ECL viewer comes with cFolders and of course DMS.

I hope you got that insight..
