ORA-01034: ORACLE not available

So your DB is not in open status, connect to SQL and issue the commad select status from v$instance and paste the result.

And what are the steps you performed to create your standby server?

For DR setup I done the followind steps

Primary Database (SAP and Oracle SID is MVQ)

1) enabled force logging (mandatory for the dataguard setup)4) Shutdown the database and copied the datafiles and log files to the DR site

2) Added stand by log files.

3) modified the dataguard related parameters in spfile - db_unique_name, fal_server, fal_client,

4) Shutdown the database and copied the datafiles and log files to the DR site

5) Created standby control file from DR environment

alter database create standby controlfile as MDR.ctl

6) Copied the control file to the DRSERVER

7) copied the oracle password file to the DR server in the $ORCALE_HOME/database folder

Install New sap instance with same SID as primary database

Secondry Database ( Oracle SID is MDR and SAP SID is MVQ)

MDR - Database

===============

1) Created init file from the MVQ database and modified with the following

2) Created the windows service for the standby database

oradim u2013NEW u2013SID MDR u2013STARTMODE manual

3) Added the database entries in both the TNSNAMES.ora and LISTENER.ora in both the oracle servers in the following paths

$ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/tnsnames.ora and $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/listener.ora

4) Reloaded the listeners in both the oracle servers

5) Started the database in mount stage using above mentioned pfile

and brought the databse in mount stage,

6) Started managed recovery using

alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session;

7) Verified the Managed recovery process and checked the log gap

After that I have added the variable

Oracle_sid = MDR

Is it right way or any mistake i did. Please advice me to solve this issue

Hi,

Check bellow steps....

1. Check Database listner service is started

2. Check Database<SID> server is started.

3. Check Database server is up.

4. check free space of datafile and tablespace

5. if database is up then use R3Trans -d command and check sap application connetivity.

you will get <0000> text if there is proper connect.

then you can easily start the server

Thanks,

HI,

1. Database listner service is running

2. Database<SID> server is running

3. Database server is up adn running.

4. Free space of datafile and tablespace is available

5. iR3Trans -d command is giving error

You don't get a connect to the database, the resulting log is most likely the same as before - "Oracle not available". Please check your alert_<SID.log, tnsnames.ora (check if you can ping the database SID with 'tnsping') and provide more information. Just posting "it doesn't work" doesn't give enough information to help you.

What is the status of your Database?

Issue R3trans -dx command and paste only the ERROR lines from the trans.log (You can find the trans.log file at the same location where you issued the R3trans command).

Just restart the machine to free-up(Remove) the shared memory and the start SAP (DB and then SAP).

*Always just paste the ERROR lines from the log and not the full log
