SPM extractors vs Standard BW already used extractors

Hi Rajesh, Rohit,

A common question we have here and one am sure you've heard from other clients, why would you want to use the SPM delivered extractors vs standard BW already used extractors, for e.g 2LIS_02_SCL for e.g?

Can we not just use the 2LIS_02_SCL and link to the SPM content dso's cubes, etc?

Presume flex would work well too?

Thanks,

Pom

Hi Pom

SPM Extractor starter kit is a SPM specific extractor.

You can use the standard extractors if you so wish to, especially if all you are concerned about is MM spend data, which the LIS* standard estractors tend to focus on (which might fine for PO and Contracts but not for invoices). If you dont pull spend or invoice data from BSEG/BKPF then you might lose out on a lot of spend (upto 40 to 50 % or even more) depending on your customer.

Once the data is extracted, you will need to change (you can use the template mechanism in SPM) the field names to map to SPM field names. WIth the SPM extractor starter kit, this is done out of the box.

Once again, its a starter kit to help you get started with your data extraction needs. If you find a shorter or better path to data extraction, you absolutely can choose to take it.

Hi Rajesh,

Thanks for your assistance on this. Am thus thinking at the lowest levels of granularity we could thus map the standard extractors, i.e 2LIS_02_HDR, ITM to the 0ASA_DS04 for example and then change the mappings of 2LIS_02 to the SPM Infoobjects. You mentioned the template mechanism, is this through the data management tool as we are also choosing not to use that and thus use standard BW data management process instead.

On a final note, was there any reason why the SPM extractors out of the box were delivered as full updates and not deltas. Understand that through the data management tool, the deltas are captured, i.e through table OPM_SOURCE_ST but any feedback you can share will help.

Best regards,

Hi Pom

You are right. the template mechanism is for data mgmt usage. If you are not going to use the data mgmt tool then you would need to figure out the way to map. I would guess in a transformation (if you are infact going to go thru datasources and not thru flat files).

Time based deltas are supported for all objects that actually have a change date concept in ERP. Why the SPM extractors were designed this way, simple they were designed to be used by SPM product as a whole. Keeping it simple was a key design principle.

Hope that answers.

Rajesh
