In order to trigger a mail for each notification created, you have to select the Partners icon (CtrlF1), Select the partner function, and the User ids (You can have multiple users selected) and then click on "Send Message to partner" icon (CrtlF1). This will trigger a mail for the notification. If there is any custom development, then you may need to implement Workflow Management..
You can configure Email server settings through [SCOT] transaction and then monitor the mail transmission through [SOST] transaction .
