SAP Oracle migration

HI All,

At present all SAP systems are hosted on HP Unix servers at my client. We are plaaning to migrate all datbases from HP unix to other operating systems ( IBM AIX or Linux) . So the SAP application will be in HP Unix and DB will be on other OS after Migration.

what are the things to consider when having a heterogeneous environment (eg. app server on our current HP-UX, and db on IDM AIX, Linux, etc)? Is there any risk/problems involved in this?

Thanks,

Nag.

Heterogeneous environment is quite common these days .... in SDN you will lot of info about it.

Also if you do a hetrogenous system copy you need to engage a SAP Certified OS/DB Migration Consultant .

Things to look for It could be data in different endian system: Big endian and small endian on different platforms, also probably you will upgrade to the new version.

Are you considering zero downtime migration for your SAP on Oracle?

Consider running both systems (source and target) for some period of time and test your target updated periodically from source. Wisdomforce Databasesync could really help you with migration in heterogeneous environment, allowing high performance online migration and works well with SAP installations

It seems to be a strange combination, to move your database from HP-UX to linux and keep the application servers on HP-UX.

Why aren't you going completely to linux or IBM? What is your motivation for the change in the first place?

Having a heterogeneous installation is always harder to maintain.

Why you are going for hetrogenous ? any specific reason like low cost OR low support charges etc.

Why you are not going for Homogenous (OS migration for Apps and DB aswell)?
