Dear Friends,
Our SAP ECC 6.0 system is running on Oracle 10204. Now I see that on the SAP Marketplace there are new Oracle versions like
10.2.0.5
11.2.0.1
11.2.0.2
Is there an upgrade available from Oracle 10204 to 10.2.0.5 or 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2 ????
Thank you,
Nikee
hi,
10.2.0.5 can be applied to 10.2.0.4 as it is a patch set (in theory only bugfixes no new functionality)
going to 11.2.0.1 or 11.2.0.2 would be an upgrade as both versions introduce a lot of new functionality, therefore it should be testes more in depth than simply apply the patch set.
It is your decision where you want to go.
Applying a patch set is simple (read the README)
for the upgrade you have the upgrade manual in service marketplace
11.2.0.2 is a patchset but oracle delviers it as full installation, therefore it is not necessary to install 11.2.0.1 and then 11.2.0.2, you can go directly.
There are notes that explain this, you can use the search functionality

Dear Friends,
Thanks for the details.
Here my questions is..
If I want to update the SBP 10.2.0.5.1 201012 on 10204 database, in the README file I have found the following:
To install SBP 10.2.0.5.1 201012, the Oracle Home must have the 10.2.0.5.0 database patch set installed
Under SAP Marketplace --> Software Downloads --> Database Patches --> Oracle --> Oracle 10.2.0.5 --> Database RDBMS
--> Linux x86-64 (64-bit)

I haven't found the software for 10.2.0.5.0 database patch set .
Where can i find the 10.2.0.5.0 database patch set software????
Thank you,
Nikee
Hi,

5. Select 'ORACLE'.
6. From the list of DVDs select all ORACLE RDBMS Release 11.2.0.2 DVDs
and add them to the download basket.
7. Download the software to your database server.
8. Extract the software (SAPCAR).
9. Install Oracle Database 11.2.0.2 software according to SAP note
1524205.
10. Install required (current) SAP Bundle Patch
For information about SAP Bundle Patches (SBP) for release 11.2.0.2
see SAP note 1503709.
The "issue" with the word support is a bit complicated.
Take a look at note 1339724 "Oracle 10.2 Extended Support free until July 31, 2011"
This notes "talks" about "Extended Support".
any Oracle version has 3 types of support (not 100% sure if the names are correct or have been changed)
1.- Customer care support
2.- Extended Support
3- Lifetime support
For the 1st oracle provides "normal" support for the version and creates patches for the current and previous patch set.
Extended support is payable and Oracle only provides patches for the last patch set.
If you do not pay then you enter in the "lifetime support". For this one, Oracle only provides support for "known issues"
The mentioned note indicate that the first year of extended support is for free, meaning that the patches are provided for "all" customers and "new" bugs are investigated for all. But only patches provided for the last patch set. As there was a big delay delivering 10.2.0.5 (delivered AFTER the date 10g entered extended support) then Oracle agreed/decided to also provide patches for 10.2.0.4.
All this is to correct the comment.
10.2.0.2 is "supported", but it is a long time no patches are created for it and new bugs will not be investigated in this version.
After July 31 2011 new bugs will only be investigated for 10.2.0.5 but for customers that have paid extended support (if I understand it correctly)
But both are supported (in a limited way, only for known issues)
Hope it is clear (if I understand it properly)
