Commit in Windows Task Manager

Hello,

We are running an IDES EHP4 system on Windows 2008 R2/SQL Server 2008 R2 in a virtual machine (created with VMWare Player 3.1.3). When we look at the system commit in Windows Task Manager, we see that the commit is limited to 4 GB, despite the fact that the swap space is set to 10 GB (we didn't set this to 20 GB because the system is only installed for demo purposes). We made tests with VM RAM sizes of 1024 and 2048 MB, and each time the commit is limited to 4 GB. Is there a Windows/VMWare/... parameter that limits this usage ?

Kind regards,

Christophe

Hi,

The physical host is installed with Windows 2003 R3 32bit.

The VM is installed with Windows 2008 R2 64bit.

The commit can be seen via Task Manager -> Performance, System part.

Hello Christophe,

sorry, but we're not testing on virtualization solutions for desktop hardware (VMware Player, VMware Workstation, VMware Server, etc.). The only valid VMware platform for SAP systems is vSphere (ESX).

You might try to raise that request in the VMware Community Forum.

Kind regards,

OS, DB and SAP are 64bit in the VM. But the physical host is 32bit.

Hello Christophe,

OS, DB and SAP are 64bit in the VM. But the physical host is 32bit.

This is not possible. You cannot run 64 Bit OS on 32 Bit hardware.

I also don't understand what you mean with "commit". You cannot configure more memory than 4 GB for the Virtual Machine?

Kind regards,

Matthias

Is this 32bit?

Even if, I would not run an ERP system below 8 GB.
