Using 2 /usr/sap/trans directories

Hey everyone,

We are facing a new challenge, and are being asked to use two

/usr/sap/trans nfs directories.

The reason for this is that we are going to stage production in another zone, and they do not want nfs to run accross it.

So we will have a /usr/sap/trans for DEV/QA and a separate one for Prod.

I belive someone mentioned we can use the forward feature in stms - but - we want to make sure this is seamless. (i.e. no manual copying of cofiles/datafiles etc...

Has anyone does this or have any experience with this? Any additional info would be greatly appriciateated. Pros/cons, steps and things to configure, as well as things to watch out for...

Thanks

Richard

Hi,

You can set up transport landscape as 2 transport group (trans dir) and one transport domain controller.

3 things must be Ok:

1. able to ping

2. read/write access

3. correct transport route (using either forward option or automatic copy job)

Thanks,

Subrata

Hi,

You can use different transport directories and it wouldn't be a problem even if the zones are different.

The transport routes must be defined correctly. and make sure that your development and quality server pings successfully from your production.

Hi,

You can definitely use two transport directories. But it all depends upon whether you have only one domain controller or two domain controller. If you have a single domain controller, then DEV/QAS and PRD will be in different transport groups. Setup your 3 system landscape and transport route correctly. For automatic copying of new transports between two trans directories you may have use some kind of job. May be use the function in STMS to find transports in other transport directory. you need to ensure that you have access to both the trans directory and have a good high speed network connection/intranet.
