System copy

Hello Gurus,

our company has split and we need to make a copy of SAP system for backup purposes and occasional viewing. Our SAP runs on Linux Red Hat and Oracle db.

We did the database copy from PRD to QAS to have fresh data there.

Then we thought the simplest solution will be cloning of the whole filesystem from QAS machine to the new backup machine, so we did it.

But now SAP doesn't start on the new backup machine:

/usr/sap/E14/SYS/exe/run/startdb: Terminating with error code 12

DB startup failed

But when we check the database with sqlplus, we see it is on and accessible.

Please, do you have any idea?

Thank you,

Ondrej

Hi,

This is not a SAP recommended process.

But you can try to change hostname in the profile and also rename profile as per your hostname. You also need to change hostname entries in listener.ora and tnsnames.ora file.

Thanks

Sunny: Yes, it's not SAP recommended process, but it's just for backup purpose, so we tought this simple clone would be the quickest way... OK, I will try to change the hostname. Thank you!

Hi,

First of all you need to check the UID and GID for all sap related users and groups at OS level. It must be same on both servers.

This is done to keep a sync on the file permissions.

Once this is done then you need to change the host name in all SAP profiles.

Can you post the content of dev_w0?

Did you follow the homogeneous system copy guide?, what was exactly the steps taken?

Also, can you check the DB log for errors?

Regards

Juan

Juan: No, it was only simple filesystem clone.

I will post the dev_w0 :

Hello,

run "R3trans -x" and check trans.log.
