How & Where is SAPinst ?

I am going to use SAPinst to export my existing SAP R/3 Enterprise (Oracle 9i, HP-UX) and import it into a new machine with Oracle 10g and HP-UX.

Now I have the following questions :

(1) Which DVD should I use first ?

(2) Is SAPinst a GUI program ?

(3) If yes, do I need to install X-Windows on my HP-UX ?

(4) Or it has already been installed ?

(5) Or, I should put the starter DVD on a Windows machine and then logon the HP-UX machine remotely ?

(6) Or SAPinst is not the best choice and you have some better ideals ?

1. You need to use the SAP R3 Enterprise Installation DVD.

2. Yes SAPinst is a GUI.

3. Yes you need to install X-Windows or use X-Manager

4. Check in ur OS

5. You can install Xmanager on a Windows PC and use it to access Unix machine.

6. No better ideas

Hi,

What you are planning on doing is a Homogenous System copy, refer to the System copy guide.

These can be found at

service.sap.com/systemcopy

SAPinst is a GUI Program. You can find this file in the Installation master DVD.

Doing the export and then importing using R3load is a database independent method,

is used more often.

Refer to the system copy guide and you can decide for yourself.
