P2V migration on VMware ESX - windows domain and driver possible issues

Hello community,

we are planning a consolidations of some non-productive instances of SAP Netweaver 7.0 (on Windows) in VMware ESX. To do this, we are using VMware Converter to do a "physical to virtual" migration (P2V)

My questions are:

- The physical servers are members of a windows domain, could this create problems when we will do the switch?

- The physical servers have hardware with specific device drivers installed, how this can work when the server will start in a different (virtualized) hardware?

Best Regards,

Valerio

I would not do this.

I would do a new plain installation of an operating system and do a homogeneous system copy (by doing backup/restore). This will avoid any inconsistencies with drivers and domain accounts and users.
