Hi,
I need to know the business procss of APO .Is it possible to work without CIF for the datatransfer to the SNP ,PPDS and GATP.Is it possible by using only the application DP we can release the data from DP to SNP and PPDS.Is it MAndatory to use an SAP R3 system for the data transfer. Please give guidance regarding the Bussiness process in SAP APO.
Thanks

Prasanna,
.Is it possible to work without CIF for the data transfer to the SNP ,PPDS and GATP
You can use any method you wish to import/export data, you don't have to use CIF. CIF is the main solution supported by SAP, but there are others.
Is it possible by using only the application DP we can release the data from DP to SNP and PPDS
I am not sure what this means. DP normally contains demand data, although it can contain just about anything. I don't think you can torture DP into containing enough data to support supply planning and production planning as well. Just thinking about managing the master data that would be required hurts my head. I would wonder what would be the business benefit from such a restriction. Attempting to limit data flow in such a way sounds ridiculously difficult.
Is it Mandatory to use an SAP R/3 system for the data transfer
No, you can connect APO to a non-SAP system.
Please give guidance regarding the Business process in SAP APO
Which one(s)? You haven't mentioned any business processes. SAP supplies a few common business processes in their Best Practices section. What did you have in mind?.

Hi,
Please go through the website below to have understanding opf higher level process capability of SCM-APO( and SCM suite as a whole)
http://www.sap.com/solutions/business-suite/scm/featuresfunctions/index.epx
For detailed help of each of the APO process, please check.

SAP SCM-APO is a plannig system and can be used standalone for planning purposes.
For execution we need to send the planned data to ERP systems. The ERP system can be non SAP or SAP.
With SAP ECC ( or SAP R/3), we have standard application CIF which helps in transferring master and transaction data between the APO and ECC systems on realtime basis/
Is it possible to work without CIF for the datatransfer to the SNP ,PPDS and GATP.
If SAP ECC ( or SAP R/3) is the ERP system ( in which execution happens) , then CIF the standard application to transfer data between the two systems for PPDS, SNP and GATP.
If connected ERP system is not SAP, then we will have BAPIs for data transfers.
Is it possible by using only the application DP we can release the data from DP to SNP and PPDS.
When we use only APO DP module, we will have demand plan as its output.
.
If we have also implemented APO SNP. PPDS modules, then APO DP output can be released from within APO to SNP/PPDS.
If we have not implemented APO SNP, PPDS modules , then, Output of demand planning i.e. demand plan, can be released to SAP ECC ( by batch jobs in APO) or by flat files to other systems if ERP system in non-SAP.
.Is it MAndatory to use an SAP R3 system for the data transfer.
No. But since globally SAP ECC(or SAP R/3) is an ERP system widely used for execution, APO is connected to this ECC (or SAP R/3) for data transfers. If the ERP system is not SAP ECC ( or SAP R/3), then data transfer from and to to APO can be done by BAPIs.
Please give guidance regarding the Bussiness process in SAP APO.
Major APO Business Porcesses: Demand planning, Supply planning, Collaborative demand and supply planning, Global Availbility check, Production Planning and detailed scheduling, Transportation Planning, Service parts planning..
Supply planning has Different procedures available ( SNP heuristics, Optimization, CTM-Capable to Match- Demand Priotization) and Processes of DRP, Safety stocks , Deployment, Transpot load bulider available.
APO also supports subcontracting , VMI processes in SNP/PPDS.
Hope this gives you insight.
Regards
Datta
