AIX LPARs hardwarekey changed for no reason

Hi,

we have 10 P-Series Blades, each blade has it's own hardware key. All licenses for all hardware keys have been installed to each SAP-sytem

Since yesterday, the hardware key on one of the blades (ps702) has changed to a completely new one, without any hardware changes on the blade

some SAP-lpars were moved to this blade with partition live mobility

now this the affected SAP-systems have been restarted on a blade, and now run with a temporary license key

so how can this be, that a sap license key changes, without changing the hardware?

thanks in advance

cheers Michael

Hi Michael,

Maybe Note 174911 can help finding the root cause.

If the OS is Linux, then a change in sequence of internal network cards can change the hardware key as well.

thank you for the response, but the network configuration has not changed on the blade

Hi Michael,

The note actually mentions if the blade has several network cards, the Linux OS may randomly switch the internal sequence of network cards which might result in change of hardware key.

This hence does not require an explicit change in hardware or network configuration, but is the nature of Linux OS.

If this symptom applies to your blade too, note 1178686 would be helpful.

Hi Srikishan,

Thanks for your answer, but we use AIX Operating System.

uname -m has not changed.

Michael

Hi Community,

Now we think we have a HW Problem with one Blade in our environment. - its not a SAP Problem.

Thanks to all
