Division for material

Hello SDN,

Is Division an organization unit ? If so, would it be

possible to clarify the following 2 statements as to why

division is said to be not an org unit?

1. Material master data

"The division in the material master is not an organization

unit that can be used to maintain related fields. It is a

field which is used to uniquely assign a material to a

division."

and

2. Common master data

"...the division in the material master is not used as an

org unit where the dependent material master data would be

maintained."

Tom

+1. Material master data

division."+

Division is not used in material master data but a combination of sales org and dist channel is used to maintain related fields. Division is an org unit used to represent a product line .

+2. Common master data

"...the division in the material master is not used as an

org unit where the dependent material master data would be

maintained."+

As the sales org + dist chaanel is used to enter data related to material master data that is why division is not used to defien common master data but the sales org + dist channel is.

For each material code you can have only one division. Division is material masterdata attribute at basic data1 view (MARA-SPART field). That is why you uniquely assign material to a division.

For organizational units, such as plant, distribution channel etc. you can define separate masterdata. And each organizational unit can have different masterdata defined.

For division there is no separate masterdata, as it is only single attribute at basic material code level.

Hi Tom,

1.A division is always Sales org. specific and it is the sales org which decides how many divisions are to be sold,in other words u can say that division is product line of the Company.

2.If for example there are three different divisions selling same product then what is the need to maintain the data in all the three sales areas instead maintain the data in one division and use it as a common division.

I hope this may be of some help to u.

Ramesh.

Hi,

DIVISION is an organisational unit in Logistics (SD).

It is a way of grouping Products and services.

In the MATERIAl MASTER will will assignt the division to only one division to organize the sales structure for a similar products or products lines

In the common master data, the division is used to reduce the extra effort of maintaining the Master data across all the division

So if you assing one common division and the Master data maintained for the Common division can be used across all the division Provided if the DIVISION is used common division
