Choice of BW Application

When we try to create Characteristics, we get a window with following message and options:

-

Choice of BW Application

Several BW changes are active in this system.

To which BW application should the object belong

BW

APO

-

It happens the same when we create a Key Figure. And we select "APO" here.

What is the purpose of this prompt and why do we select either of these and when?

K,

APO makes use of features that do not exist in BW, such as making a Key figure 'fixable' during disaggregation..

If you intend to use any of these objects in a planning area, use the APO type objects.

Hi

APO keyfigures are editable, fixable in APO planning area where as BW are only readable.

It does not make much difference with the characteristics the same time except for the data type.

Rule of thumb, for any key figures that you use in any cube or load data and keep read only in APO, use BW key figures, if you want to edit or fix the values in APO planning book, use APO keyfigures. The same kind of rule applies to characteristics. If you use in cube, use BW characteristics and if in APO planning book, use APO ones. For characteristics I see no real difference if it is BW or APO object.

I hope its gives you some insight. Please let us know if you have any more doubts regarding it

Thanks
