Application of OSS notes on WEB AS

Hi all,

I had a question reagrding application of OSS notes on any SAP system.

Generally when we apply OSS notes, sometimes system prompts for some dependant notes to be applied before the final OSS notes can be applied. However,if sme of these dependant notes are already implemented in the system(based on the current support pack level of the system),then does the system give any kind of message stating that which of the dependant notes are already there in the system and which need to be implemented before the final notes can be applied??

Thanks!

Hi,

The dependent notes for a particular note are defined in the OSS itself by the Note Authors.

Hence the SNOTE downloads the dependent notes also irrespective of whether it is relevant or not.

But while applying the note(including the dependent notes), the SNOTE checks if the note is valid for the particular system depending on component version/SP Level. Incase its not, SNOTe does not apply the note.

During the implementation, SNOTE shows which dependent notes are being applied as well including the main note. So although SNOTE does not explicitely tell which note is not being applied - but shows which is being applied and those are valid. The skipped ones are invalid.

Thanks.

But what about those dependant notes which are already there in the system and which come up in the list of dependant notes in the SNOTE transaction???Are these note corrections overwritten again in the system?

Hi,

No definitely not. This is the reason a particular component version and support package is maintained for a respective note.

Considering this assignment, the SNOTE compares the information in the note to the system information. If the system already at the same level or higher level, SNOTE flags the note as cannot be applied.

Manual way to check this -> download a note which you know is not relevant for the system. SNOTE downloads it, but when you view the note status via the Note browser it shows 'cannot be applied'. If you still try to implement the note, SNOTE gives appropriate message saying, note corrections are not valid for the system as they are already existing in the system.
