Hello Gurus,
I wish to check with you some concepts about the abovementioned.
Its mentioned that "the availability check takes place on the material availability date. ... This means the material availability date must be determined in the sales order before the availability check is carried out." and "Material delivery date is determined using delivery scheduling".
Is Material Availability date not determined as a Result of Availability Check?
How do you differentiate, in layman terms, between Delivery Scheduling and Availability check?
Best
Alfonso
In addition to the points mentioned by others, I would like to add one point.
Av.Chk can also be carried out at Delivery level, in addition to the sales order level. It makes sense to do that.
Av chk is calculated by using planned inward & outward movements of goods.
If any unforseen/unexpected events occur, afrer sales order, Av check can be done at delivery.
Hope, that helps you.

There are two concepts.
One is called Delivery scheduling. This is the functionality used to arrive at the material availability date MAD. In order to calculate this , it uses availability check and use the inflow and outflow of goods, replenishment lead time if applicable, internal production lead time or external procurement lead time as given in material master and finally arrive at the MAD.
Once this is obtained, the picking lead time, packign lead time, transportation lead time, goods issue lead time etc are caculated using something called transportation scheduling. As a part of transportation scheduling or in route scheduling, the lead time for every route, the lead time for every activity in the shipping point are given. Using these details, the loading date, GI date, delivery date, transportation plannign date are arrived.
Using these two functionality, the delievry date is arrived. However in most of the cases I have seen, people dont activate the transportation scheduling functionality and hence MAD is updated automatically as the dates for further processes.

Hello Alfonso,
Based on the scheduling, the delivery dates are determined automatically and proposed while processing the sales order. It considers transit time, loading time, pick/pack time and transportation lead time and arrives at a date, this is the date when the stocks are available (material availability date). Availability is checked on the material availability date.
I hope this helps.

Hi ,
Is Material Availability date not determined as a Result of Availability Check?
No it is not . The material availability check happens on the availability date which is provided by scheduling . Its used for checking material availability.
How do you differentiate, in layman terms, between Delivery Scheduling and Availability check?
Delivery scheduling calculates pick pack time and loading time along with transp plang time and transit time. Availability check is checking the availabilty of the said material in delivering plant on the date detremined by delivery scheduling.

Deepak
