Current Patch Set for Oracle Database Release 11.2

Former Member

Hi

I am upgrading oracle 10G to 11GR2 in AIX 5.3 Environment with SAP ECC6 , I have just just installled Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 according to the "Database Upgrade Guide -Upgrade to Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2): UNIX". After database software installation , in upgrade manual in section 3.4.4 it says, you need to install current patch set for oracle database 11g R2 and referencing a SAP note 1431799.

I have just read note 1431799 which says Current Patch Set for Oracle Database Release 11.2 is not generally available for SAP customers until December 2010, also I donu2019t find the note 1522330 as mentioned in 1431799.

Please let me know how I can get current patch set to apply with Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 (Is it in SAP service market place?)

I also want to upgrade my installation to oracle 11.2.0.2, please let me know where I get the patch set to upgrade from 11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.2,

or

I have to live with 11.2.0.1.0 and apply SAP Bundle Patch ( SBP)

Hi

Read Note 1524205. It says you just need to get the patchset for 11.2.0.2 for upgrade.

You can get the oracle patch set from marketplace as below

goto service.sap.com/swdc

goto database patches

select oracle

select oracle 11.2.0.2

select Database RDBMS

select your OS

You can see the latest 11.2.0.2 released in december. Download this.

Importantly, follow the steps for upgrade exactly as per the note above. I have read it and it seems there has been change in the traditional way of applying patches than was used to be earlier.

Cheers!

Hi Javed,

Thanks for your reply. I have checked the note you mentioned, this is the only note I found so far that talks about upgrading from oracle 11.2.0.1.0 to 11.2.0.2.

As I have read the note, and in page 6 in section 4, it says

4. Preparing the Software Stage

- Download the Oracle database patch set software and extract the software to the database server.

And in Database patches -> Oracle -> Oracle 11.2.0.2 ->Database RDBMS I only see SAP Bundle Patches ( SBP ) released every month, if I am not mistaken, I donu2019t see any Oracle database patch set unless it is part of SBP.

Do you think after I install oracle 11.2.0.1.0 ( SAP downloads are only Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 , not 11.2.0.2.) and following the note 1524205 and applying SAP Bundle Patches with 11.2.0.2 will complete the installation

Thanks

Hi

As I have already said, this is the new menthod and differs from what we used to do earlier. I am also going by SAP Note, as I haven't done this personally. So unless anybody here gives alternate view, I am going by the note and believing that after SBP, you will have an upgraded oracle.

My advice is why dont you try this on any test system and let us all know. It will be a knowledge add to me also!!

Cheers!

Surely NOT !

As of 11g the patchsets are full installations and the patching procedure has completely changed.

There are additional notes about this already out on SAP-Marketplace.

Basicly, you do not intall the sw into 112_64 but into 11201_64 and 112_64 is a symlink now.

You install 11.2.0.2 into 11202_64 and then exchange the sw with a modificationcommand to the inventory and

a switch of the symlink. Check out the note of the "current patchset for 11.2".

I think the upgrade guide will be exchanged soon.

It describes a procedure still valid for 10.2 and not for the new adopted procedure as of 11g.

Yesterday 11.2.0.2 sw for AIX was not availible on SAPNET yet.

Hello Everyone,

I did read the post on to how you have to install the current patch set for 11.2.

But honestly, it pretty much flew over my head.

I am trying to upgrade our SAP AIX 64 bit test system from Oracle 10.2.0.4 to 11.2.0.2.

And so far I have downloaded all the required sw for the upgrade, except for the current patch set 11.2.

This is what I have right now:

1) Oracle 11.2 AIX 64 bit upgrade sw - 51038805_part 1 to 51038805_part 7 and 51039800.

2) Database Patches -->Oracle 11.2.0.2 -->

All they have here is

a. Database RDMBS - SAP_112020_201012_AIX.zip and b. SAP_112020_201101_AIX.zip

b. OPatch - OPatch_11201_Generic_v3.zip and mopatch-2_1_6.zip

c. Database Vault - DV - >Generic - p9656644_112020_Generic.zip

If I am not wrong, the Database RDBMS files are nothing but the SAP Bundle Patches that have to be installed after installing the currrent patch set 11.2.0.2 using MOPatch.

But I did not find the currrent patch set 11.2.0.2.

Could someone please explain the process to me in detail? This being my first time , I am finding it a bit hard to catch up with some of the stuff.

Thank You!

Abu Al MAmun,

I understand from your posts that you recently upgraded to 11.2.0.2.

I am having the same difficulty, of finding the current patch set for 11.2. Could you please let me know how you worked around it?

Thanks,

Siri

Your question has beeb replied by Volker above

For AIX only SW availabe Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 ( SAP downloads are only Oracle 11.2.0.1.0 , not 11.2.0.2.) so you can not apply SAP Bundle patch from 11.2.0.2.

There is no patch set yet availabe for Oracle 11.2.0.1 to 11.2.0.2 from SAP on AIX platform

Still SAP didnot release Oracle 11.2.0.2 sw for AIX was on SAPNET yet.

Sorry , just to make sure I understood it correctly-

Can I still download the 11.2 sw, and the database patch 11.2.0.1 ?

Even for 11.2.0.1, the latest Bundle patch is SAP_112013_201101_AIX.zip .

So , after installing 11.2 sw, is this the patch set SAP_112013_201101_AIX.zip I need to install for 11.2.01?

Or am i missing something here?

Thanks.

No, your missing nothing, but still get some terms wrong.

11.2 is 11.2.0.1 the "base" release if you like it in terms of 10g.

Patchset 1 for 11.2 will be 11.2.0.2 and it will NOT be shipped as a patchset as it has been for 10g in the past.

It is announced to be shipped as a full installation, so you will install the complete 11.2.0.2 into a seperate new location.

You are not going to overwrite your base release with a patchset as it has been with 10g.

SBP SapBundlePatches are the ones that are to be seen right now in SMP.

These are to be applied only to the corresponding release, which means:

SBP for 11.2.0.1 only onto 11.2.0.1

SBP for 11.2.0.2 only onto 11.2.0.2

So, yes, you can put SAP_112013_201101_AIX.zip onto 11.2.0.1 BUT this is NOT a patchset!

It is a bugfixbundle for 11.2.0.1.

Hope this helps
