Hello Team,
We are using PLM system installed on Netweaver 2004 Server,Oracle
Version is 9.2.0.6.0 and OS is 32-bit Red Hat Linux version 3ES,Machine
type i686.
Now we are planning to Upgrade OS and Database on Server but we have
below doubts about the Upgradtion:
1) Presently 64-bit server is running on 32-bit Red Hat Linux version
3ES (Means we have 64 bit hardware and 32 bit OS is running on it). So
our plan is to Upgrade the OS to a 64 bit version.
Now our query is to which 64 bit Linux version we should go for
Netweaver 2004.
2 ) As I mentioned we are using Oracle 9.2.0.6.0 So our plan is also to
Upgrade Oracle to 10g or 11 version but we are not sure with which
release we should go.
So please confirm for Netweaver 2004, and Upgraded OS verion( Target
version of OS) which Oracle version , We should go for smooth
Functioning of Application after the system Upgrade.
Components Installed on Server are as:
SAP_ABA 640 0010 SAPKA64010
SAP_BASIS 640 0010 SAPKB64010
PI_BASIS 2004_1_640 0007 SAPKIPYI67
ST-PI 2008_1_640 0003 SAPKITLRC3
SAP_BW 350 0010 SAPKW35010
CPROJECTS 310_640 0009 SAPK-31409INCPROJECT
ST-A/PI 01M_BCO640 0001 SAPKITAB6F
Kernel Information :
Kernel release 640
Compilation Linux GNU SLES-7
Patch Level 247
ABAP Load 1521
CUA load 17
Mode opt
Please help us in confirm this information.
Thanks & Regards,
Shivam Mittal
I would:
- do the upgrade to Oracle 10g (or 11g) on 32bit
- take a full backup
- delete the system and install a recent RedHat version (Redhat 5.6 or Redhat 6)
- do a system copy with the backup using 64bit

I would vote against going to RHEL6 at this time.
1.) It's not supported by Oracle. I doubt you'll see Oracle support it until OEL6, which will likely come after CentOS6. Both are being delayed because the new method RHEL is using to deploy their kernel in RHEL6.
2.) It's not supported by SAP. I doubt you'll see SAP support it until Oracle supports it. Which, if you read #1, you'll notice it may be a little while.
AFAIK, SAP no longer support 32-bit installation.
Should this kind of customer upgrade directly to 64-bit? is that possible (using SAPup)?
Or, upgrade to next version 32-bit, then convert to 64-bit?
Thanks before.

This is not a SAP upgrade so sapup would not be involved. This would be a system copy.I think red hat 5 was recently certified.OS and DB combinations would depend on the PAM.Not sure about whether it would be heterogenous or homogenous.Usually 32 bit to 64 bit are homogenous if the underlying architecture remains same.
Hello Shivam,
Always when you have doubts about any product if it is supported or not, and if it is feasbile to upgrade, you should look on the Product Availability Matrix, that you can access by service.sap.com/pam. You can see there which operating system at which version you can install along with the database vendors and releases too. All you have to do is select the product which you are going to upgrade.
Cheers,
Maurício

Hi Mauricio,
Thanks for reply.
I am working on PAM also but I have doubt
1 - As communicated by my OS team we are using Red Hat Linux version 3ES but I checked on PAM
there is no such version available there available versions are :
LINUX REDHAT EL5
LINUX REDHAT EL5
LINUX SUSE SLES10..
LINUX SUSE SLES10...
LINUX SUSE SLES8.
LINUX SUSE SLES9.
LINUX SUSE SLES9.
So I am thinking 3ES or 3 EL is same or they are using Linux SUSE not Linux Redhat.
Please sugget if you have idea of it.

Looks like the Readhat Linux version 3 has now out of support from RH check https://access.redhat.com/kb/docs/DOC-42249
Serach on redhat.com site for more details.
