Dear All,

I will plan to do client copy from PROD to QA .

pls find the details :

we have 2 client in PROD .

one is for preprod client (for BI testing purpose).

second is for Actual prod client .

Below things i need to clarify.

1, I required to take a copy whole data from actual PROD Client to QA ,let me know which profile is prepared .

2, What are the things i have to check before performing Client copy PRD to QA . (Both QA side as well as PROD side).

3, PROD DB size is 450GB , let me know how long i will take to complete the Client copy .

we are using AIX , Oracle 10G and ECC6.0.

Kindly advise

Make sure you do this activity when there is less load on the system. Use export/import method for client copy.

There is no standard timeliness for client copy. It depends on the system resources available and performance of the system. In order to increase the speed of import in your quality system, you can de-activate archiving and once client import will finish then activate it again.

>>we have 2 client in PROD .

Not a good idea to have two clients in production.

There are client copy profiles, you have to select the accrete profile as per your requirement and has the description.

You have two options:

remote client copy (I will not advise as your DB is 450 GB)

Client export / import

For client export / import, make sure you have sufficient freespace under /usr/sap/trans.

also make sure you have sufficient freespace on your QA system or extend you QA DB as same as prod.

Time is depend on your H/W CPU, memory, HDD speed. I think client export should finish in 4-5 hours and may vary on client profile.

Dear Sunil ,

Thanks for your mail .

>>we have 2 client in PROD .

Not a good idea to have two clients in production ---> Still BI is not golive and testing also done in Preprod Client , anyway after golive of BI , we will delete Preprod Client .

There are client copy profiles, you have to select the accrete profile as per your requirement and has the description --> shall i gohead with SAP_all or SAP_EXPA (bcoz i want complete data of Actual PROD Client to QA)

You have two options:

Client export / import --> With your advise i can gohead Client export / import

For client export / import, make sure you have sufficient freespace under /usr/sap/trans ---> i have increase /usr/sap/trans file system on both QA and PROD . if yes Client advise approximatly hopw much space i required to increase.

also make sure you have sufficient freespace on your QA system or extend you QA DB as same as prod ---> With your advise i wil increase QA file system as like prod .

Time is depend on your H/W CPU, memory, HDD speed. I think client export should finish in 4-5 hours and may vary on client profile.

Kindly provide some clearence about profile . bcoz my requirement i need a whole copy of Actual PROD client to QA .

Kindly advise the points so that i can smoothly complete my client copy process .

thanks and regards

Use SAP_ALL profile if you want all the client specific data.

Do you also want the BI client in QA?

Dear Sunil ,

Thanks for your mail .

I forgot to say one thing .

Preprod is a copy of actual prod client only ,so i dont required pre prod data to QA (bcoz any is a copy of Actual prod)

2 Client are in prod , pls check below details:

1,Actual PROD Client.

2,Preprod client (copy of Actual prod client)

Pls advise .

Mean you have two client of same size in your production system. Mean your real client size may be around 200 GB?

If this is the case then you can use remote client copy (SCC9) which should be easy option for you.

Are you going to replace your existing development client or creating a new client.

Dear Sunil ,

Yes QA Client will be overrite from PROD Client .

Still i have below query

I have to increase /usr/sap/trans file system on both QA and PROD servers? . if yes let me know approximate size i have to increase ?

Pls check our PROD file system.

If you use remote client copy then no need to extend /usr/sap/trans.

Any recommendation is required to do remote client copy like both PROD and QA have same set of support patch level etc ?

Former Member

Hm! always you must have both systems on same patch level.

Former Member

Dear Sunil ,

I thing remote is not possible bcoz both the system patch levels are not same .so i will plan export / import method .

Pls suggets i have to upgrade usr/sap/trans on both the system . if yes let me how much space to increased on usr/sap/trans .

or only i have to increase the file system on QA ?

Kindly suggets

I have never tried to export/import client in different SP levels. Hence I can't assure you.

About the /usr/sap/trans this filesystem is shared between your systems. Where is the physical filesystem, on that server only you need just expand at once.

Former Member

Mean for export / import also need both the system should also a same patch level ?

Kindly advise

Former Member

I think yes. if you want a successful client copy.

Former Member

Dear Sunil ,

I think final query ,patch level means all the Support packages , kernal packages , addon patches and including SPAM patch ..

is it correct ? ,pls correct me if i am wrong or any thing missing ?

Kindly suggest

Former Member

Some time SAP kernel is different then client copy should work. But SAP recommands always use latest TP, R3trans and R3load patches.

Only support pack and add-on should be on same level, SPAM patch should not be an issue.

Dear Sunil ,

This is the time to close this thread ,

currently patch level process is going on QA system.

Still i have one query .

1, /usr/sap/trans file system should be increase on QA as well as PROD ?

2, U have mentioned extend QA DB as same as PROD that means QA file system should be increased as same as PROD ?

QA DB patch level is 10.2.0.2 but PROD patch level 10.2.0.4 , Need to be upgrade DB patch level on QA ?

Kindly suggest

Can I ask why your landscape is not on one level? (DB, kernel, support pack etc)

There should not be an issue if you have oracle on different patch levels.

>>/usr/sap/trans file system should be increase on QA as well as PROD ?

The /usr/sap/trans file system should be shared (SAP standard) across the landscape. (DEV, QA, PRD). If you are not sharing the filesystem then you have to extend the filesystem on QA and PRD. Please paste the df -k output from QA and PRD.

As you are doing the client copy no need to have same filesystem size on QA as PRD, but you need to extend you database as same production. Do you have sufficient freespace on existing filesystem on QA.

above filesystem mounted on production from your PRDCIXI_svc.

As per your df -k result doesn't looks like the /usr/sap/trans filesystem is shared between you QA and PRD.

>>we have installed 3 instances on same server . (SAP DEV,QA,BI(dev))

Are you using same /usr/sap/trans for all above instances? or different.

Simple test, logon to your prod server go to /usr/sap/trans and create a dummy file.

now logon to QA server goto /usr/sap/trans and check whether you can see above file created on prod.

Dear Sunil ,

1,usr/sap/trans for PROD is not shared (its only applicable PROD) .

2,usr/sap/trans is shared for BIWdev, ECCDEV, and ECCQA .(its common for 3 instanaces) .

Note :

1,Now MY prod and QA have same Kernal patches and same support packages as well same addons patch .

2, our OS team added 20GB to usr/sap/trans on both the systems .

3, we have adjust below QA file system as same as prod.

for your reference :

Hello Satheesh,

For different SAP SP patch levels, remote client copy from Prod to QA will not work because of table structures are different.

However, you can perform export / import using sapinst. Another method is Database copy. It is the best method for refreshing from Prod to Qa having large database size.

Thanks and Regards
