Difference between Selected Sets and Code Groups

Recently, I've learnt the difference usage of the Selected sets and the Code Groups.

In some way, the selected set requires the user to give evaluation of the codes from the selected sets while the code groups doesn't.

Based on the above, only the type 1 character attributes and the 3 usage decision are allowed to set as a selected sets in the standard system.

And now, I am wondering anything further different ?

it depend upon ur settings for which catalog u want selected sets

qcc4-Basic Data-Catalog-Define Catalog Types- selected sets allowed. generally it is used for catalog 1 and 3

You use selected sets to combine codes from several code groups for processing that are allowed or useful for a particular application.Codes that are copied into a selected set are known as set codes.

for usage decision codes u cannot use codes groups directly. u have to use selected sets.

Dear Code groups are used to combine and structure codes within a catalog type.

Codes describe qualitative contents in machine form that can be easily processed.

A selected set contains a combination of different codes at plant level, for example, coded descriptions of characteristic

attributes (such as color, shape, surface characteristics), defect causes or usage decisions from different code groups.

Example:You need to create code group as per your requirement in QS41.

Suppose for catalog 1 Characteristics Attribute,create code group COLOUR.

Then you can maintain codes for group say 0001 Red,0002 Blue,0003 Green.

As per this you can create code groups for 2 Tasks,3 Usage decisions etc.

Then you need to create selected sets in QS51 for this code group.

This selected set then you can assign to MIC in QS21.

Assign MICs to Inspection plan(QP01).

While Result Recording(RR),you need to give code as per your requirement.
