When to use IDOC and when to use HTTP

I have a question regarding SRM PO transactions. In our scenario now, we are using HTTP. But, can we also use IDOCs? For POs, we can use ORDERS IDOC I think. If there is a suitable IDOC, can we use it instead of HTTP?

In other scenarios, how can we know what to use between IDOC and HTTP since they are both from ABAP stack?

Thanks everyone.

Hi ignatius,

What about using the standard SRM content from service marketplace.

You can download and use the standard XI content provided by SAP and this will reduce alot fo development effort and a seamless intergration.

https://websmp209.sap-ag.de/support->; Support Packages and Patches - Entry by Application Group" SAP Content" ESR Content (XI Content)" XI CONTENT SRM SERVER IC" XI CONTENT SRM SERVER IC 7.0.

SRM will not support IDOCs so u can use standard mapping between SRM content and IDOC.

The scenario will be ECC(IDOC)-PI-SRM(Proxy) and Vice-versa .

Hi,

Your question is not clear. Are you working on IDOC to HTTP scenario or something else.

In general you can use IDOC scenarios when you have standard IDOC present in SAP system and you can use HTTP when you need to communicate with third party (non sap system) or when you dont have standard IDOC.

Hi,

you could have provided more details on which scenario of SRM you are using HTTP and how the data is processing at the receiver end...

Its better to go with either Proxy or IDOC adapters for transfering the data to and from SRM Systems to ECC ..

You can check the content provided by the SAP for these transactions..
