SPAM update running for a long time in MAIN_IMPORT - NW 7.0 SR3

Hi,

I have installed NW 7.0 SR3 -> AS ABAP. I am trying to update SPAM. My current version is 7.00/0026. I tried updating it to patch level 33 and 36 but during both the updates SPAM is taking an awful amount of time in the MAIN_IMPORT phase. Update to patch level 33 has been running for almost a week now after i used 'R3trans -i' from the command line as a last-ditch effort. a 'trans.log' file is being continuously updated. Any ideas on why just SPAM update is running for so long?

Hi Rense,

Something is definitely wrong as SPAM import doesnt run for so long...It always finishes within an hour.

What does the SPAM status show??

Check in the logs for errors here - Goto->Import Logs --> SPAM/SAINT update

You could also paste the error here, then we can analyse it.

Hi Sangeetha/Srihari,

'R3trans -i <datafile> ' is running in my system wherein i have installed NW 7.0 SR3 -> ABAP. Now when i try to execute SPAM it is throwing me a runtime 'SYNTAX_ERROR' in a program.

Now, I have installed another SAP IDES ERP 6.0 SR3 system wherein i am facing the same problem(SPAM running for long time). Is it possible to update SPAM and apply support packs in an IDES system? In this system, I have also applied SAP notes to resolve a long running background job while updating SPAM 7.00/0026 as per note# 1138351.

P.S.: When the update enters MAIN_IMPORT phase, cannot see any processes running in SM50.

Hi,

So as per the note@1138351, did you see any deadlocks? If so, it clearly mentions to implement note#1132422 to avoid deadlocks.

As per the syntax_error and the warnings, try to reset the import queue and try once more.

Also check for "known problems" with support packages. Meanwhile, could you please post me the job logs?

I have implemented both the notes 1132422 and 1138351.I had cancelled my previous SPAM update and started fresh an hour ago. Now the MAIN_IMPORT phase is running. -

from the SLOG, the only thing I can see is that maybe your language settings are not correct... 

he following languages will be imported: 1VW3HRUd6PIKDMQ5CJTNOZ24EFGLS

Are those languages maintained in SMLT, RSCPINST? or only on parameter zcsa/installed_languages?

There are many languages present in SMLT( i guess since it is an IDES system)

Also, zcsa/installed_languages= DE

Kindly let me know what changes need to be made regarding language settings.

The only inconsistency will be on zcsa\installed_languages as its not reflecting all the languages installed on the system, but I don't think this is causing the issue.

Any errors at all in SM21?...

I have changed zcsa/installed_languages to the value suggested during simulation in RSCPINST

Now, updated the value to 123456CDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWZd.

There are no errors in SM21 relating to the update.

Can you try to upgrade your tp, R3trans & R3load files to latest levels? No downtime require, and these file can be downloaded from service.sap.com/swdc under support pack links, select kernel and your correct os/db.

Hi,

Could you please check the log for the job OCS_QUEUE_IMPORT and also check if RDDIMPDP is scheduled?

Check if there are any terminated packages in the queue. If so delete them and reschedule the SPAM update.

Please let me know if you have done the necessary prerequisite steps before proceeding with the SPAM update.
