Dear All,

I would like to install the NW2004 SP16 Sneak Preview (Windows OS) on a laptop. I would like use this system as a learning/demo system (develop java/portal/webdynpro applications and deploy them on portal). May be somewhere down the line, I would like to install NW2004s (Java+ABAP stack) on the laptop.

What would be the minimum workable configuration for this scenario and if some one has configured Nw2004 or NW2004s on a laptop, can u Pl share your views?

Thanks and Regards

Velu

Hi,

Windows XP Home is not an option as far as I know: you should go for (at least) Windows XP Pro or rather Windows 2003, if you want reliable TREX support.

Apart fromt the OS version, ror training and light development work this laptop seems a very good choice!

In spite of the impressive figures be prepared to wait a bit when starting the Portal After the initial startup sequence, the performance on a laptop with 2 GB of RAM is quite good.

Good luck with the installation!

Kind regards,

Jurjen.

PS: do not forget to install the correct version of the JDK: 14.2_08 or 1.4.2_09 and do not use @ in the password for the database users!

Wooops, sorry, I think I forgot to put up a watch for this topic...

Well, your laptop is probably more powerful than a server, and if all you want is an SAP on it. It is definitely more than enough with the system. Linux is highly recommended since Windows crashes all the time. If you have not had any experience before with Linux, Ubuntu seem to be a good place to start. It is very easy to use and the good thing is that they ship the CDs for free (with no shipping cost as well): www.ubuntu.org is their website, I think.

Moreover, the SAP for Linux is always free (including free instllation DVD), provided you are willing to renew your liscence every 90 days. Take a look at this website:

Hope this will help!

Hi

It works fine in my laptop (SP16). The configuration is 2GB RAM and 80GB Single partion space.Normally NWDS occupies more memory. If you want to install ABAP Stack, it would be nice, if you add 1 GB RAM on it.

Check other pre-requsite from here

I had an IBM T42 with 1.6GHz CPU, 1G of RAM and 100G hard disk, 15G used for the SAP system. It took me like almost an hour and half to install the system and running it takes some time.

My advice is: if your laptop is not those at the high end product, do not try the ABAP one, and use the slim edition for the Java version.

Here is the system requirement, FYI:
