It depends upon the type of processing used. THere could be two possibilities here.
as I understand the one that failed could be a file to idoc adapter.
1) The data is incorrect or check the target system if you see any timeout message as sometimes the dialog work process run time parameter in the target system also causes this to fail.
2) Though the file size is that small when it packs it based on the number of records it has, it could grow exponentially.
Check these both and am sure the reason possibly could be any of the above.
