Dear All,

We have a CRM6.0 on HP-UX with oracle. We want to install a new dialog instance on a Linux OS.

We have downloaded Installtion MAster/Java/Kernel DVDs for linux.

We are getting following error while installation.

Hi,

Dialog instance uses same SAP Kernel directory of Central Instance - nothing new.

So, please use HP-UX SAP Kernel.

Thanks,

Subrata

In an heterogeneous environment the CI/DI do not share /sapmnt/<SID>/exe as the kernel for HP-UX and Linux are different.

Make sure /sapmnt/<SID>/exe from CI is not mounted on your DI, only /sapmnt/<SID>/global and /sapmnt/<SID>/profile should be mounted.

@Subrata,

Dialog instance uses same SAP Kernel directory of Central Instance - nothing new.

So, please use HP-UX SAP Kernel.

That information is wrong

I recommend you both to read the documentation in detail.

I very much agree with Juan . Kernel is different both for Unix and Linux so make sure you have different mount points and not shared.

Thanks Subrata,

Can you please elaborate?

I tried copying the run directory of the CI(HP-UX Kernel) to the Dialog instance and rerunning the installation but in vain.

Thanks a ton for the information. I'll try it and will update accordingly.

You should not copy the HP UX files to Linux, this will never erver work.

There is a document/note on SAP Marketplace please search. for example Note 1067221 - Composite note for heterogeneous installation

I already elaborate the point in my previous post. Linux needs its own kernel sapmnt/<SID>/exe should not be mounted from the CI and you should not copy the kernel as it simply wont work

This info is written in detail in the installation guide please read it.

Vishal,

When we meant different mount points and different kernel we did not mean to copy HP -UX kernel onto Linux. Linux has its own version of Kernel and HP-UX has its own version of Kenrel. so you have two versions of Kernels to download.

Thanks all.. It worked.. But the instance doesn't startup.

You have marked this question as answered. Hence I request you to open another thread. Anyway, have you looked for below error.

/usr/sap/WCD/SYS/exe/run/dboraslib.so: ELF file data encoding not little-endian

HPUX is big endian while Linux is little endian, That mean the data on your exe directory is still the HPUX kernel, delete the kernel and download the Linux one

Dear Juan,

I checked some SAP notes and they recommended to restart the installation to overcome this error.

CJS-30129 Creating node /sapmnt/$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)/exe with type DIRECTORY failed

Just to ensure that I run a clean installation I removed the instance and started a fresh installation.

This again threw an error..

Creating node /sapmnt/$(SAPSYSTEMNAME)/exe with type DIRECTORY failed

Does /sapmnt/<SID>/exe exist?.. if not /usr/sap should be shared or mounted as /sapmnt

in anycase all this info is in the installation guide, please read and follow all the pre-installation steps.

Regards

Juan
