Hello SD gurus,
Is 'Storage Location' = Warehouse?
Is the Plant = Factory? If so, by default is Plant = Warehouse? Or Can a plant be its own warehouse?

Hi,
As already expressed by mates,
It depends on how Warehouse activities monitor occurs such as in a plant , there are various locations to place the goods.these locations sometimes identified with the type of goods such as Salebale FG materials, Returned goods, re-work locations or Scarp location.
In warehouse if they want to process warehouse actiivity differently such as, for Customer returns Transfer order has to be created automatically & confirmed. where as in normal sales TO has to be created manually, once actual goods picked then the TO will get confirmed proceeds with PGI.
Which means, process is slightly different within same plant. So they will create returns as one storage location & Determine Returns warehouse with Plant + Storage location. This is one of the cause. similarly there are many other reasons also.
As i said in beginning, it all depends on how they want to monitor the warehouse activites. Generally creation of warehouse triggers by the storage location & plant.
Hope it adds info.

Is 'Storage Location' = Warehouse?
No it is not exactly warehouse. They are two different organization structure. The storage location is defined as the location of physical stock in a plant. If warehouse management functionality is NOT activated, then the lowest level of inventory is mainntained at storage location level (IM Stock). Whereas in warehouse , the stock is maintained at storage bin level (WM stock). Though the storage location has some functionlities similar to warehouse management, it can't fulfill all of warehouse functionalities for example randon storage of goods and use of transfer order functionality.
Normally the warehouse is defined with the assignment of storage location and plant.A warehouse can be assigned to multiple plant/storage location combination.
Is the Plant = Factory?
Yes it can be, if you define the factory a place where production is carried out or goods and services are provided.
If so, by default is Plant = Warehouse? Or Can a plant be its own warehouse?
By defualt plant can't be a warehouse. Plant consists of storage locations and as mentioned before, plant+storage location is assigned to warehouse in order to maintain the stock at bin level.

hi,
this is to inform you that,
1.Is 'Storage Location' = Warehouse?
1.a. A Storage Location is a storage area comprising warehouses in it which is in close proximity. Material stocks can be differentiated according to its types, on a quantity basis, within one plant according to storage location. We can define Storage Location in a SAP R/3 client with T-code: SPRO/OX09.
2. Is the Plant = Factory? If so, by default is Plant = Warehouse? Or Can a plant be its own warehouse?
2.a.A plant is the place of production of goods which supports sales activities, valuation of material takes place. Plant is used by plenty of modules in Material Management (MM), Production Planning (PP), Sales and Distribution (SD), and Plant Maintenance (PM) module.
a place where material valuation takes place
