DMS network load

Hi Experts,

we are going to implement DMS and ERP system. The ERP system will be at location A (3rd party datacenter), but DMS will be at our side B, where most users are located.

When the users open and upload documents, will it cause high load to network between location A and B?

Thanks a lots.

Hi Rongfeng,

Presume when you refer site B,it means 'DMS Content Derver' at site B.(DMS,part of your ECC landscape can be configured at site A).The content server is where your uploaded documents will actually reside. You may refer to previous posts in the forum on Content Sever sizing tips.

Please note that if the content servers are accessed from different locations linked only via a LAN/WAN, cache servers should be setup. The load on network traffic can be reduced and performance enhanced by installing at least one cache server at each of the access locations.

Hi Pradeepkumar,

thanks for your advice. yes, I meant 'DMS Content Server' at site B.

If we deploy ECC at site A and deploy DMS Content Server at site B (this save cost of one cache server, since no users at site A), will document read and upload cause too much network load between site A and site B?

Network load would depend whether your Content Server is under/over/optimally sized.Content Server sizing is a separate exercise that you need to carry out in conjunction with your Basis team and the customer. Capture details along parameters like Office/Plant from where docs would be accessed, the available network bandwidth, number of users, number of transactions per day, maximum size of a single file,no. of concurrent users, number of documents generated/day that would be uploaded and the growth plan for the next 3-5 years.

Once done, the Basis team will provide you with details like CPU,RAM,OS,bandwidth and hard disk space that would be needed for setting up an optimally sized Conent Server. You may search for previous threads in this forum for more details.
