hi all,
we have 4 materials. say A,B, C & D. all are common.
my scenario is as follows :
out of four i want to keep A as a main materials and it will act as a alternative item for remaining B, C & D.
Though sales requirement generate on B, C & D it will automatically pass on "A" w r t stock availability.
in sale order i have check ALternative to item in sales "A" tab. but it is only for quotation and it is not useful for requirement generation.
please advise for alternative item task in sales transaction

You can use material determination for your requirement.
Specify the Substituion reason as Availability in VB11.

If your issue can be fixed with the material Determination?
As per your last post, Schedule line category determination is missing for the relevant items ( you might be using text items in SO)
check in tx:VOV5
then check copy controls. if you want to dispatch the text items , then sch.line cat should be "CT".

Can you explain your process,,
if sales requirement generates for B,C &D - planning should be done for A only. Then what about the distribution process. how will you manage the same?
- How about demand or forecast planning carried out on what Material basis?

we are using number of Pumps as a one of component of assembly.
there a number of pumps we are purchasing. child parts of these pumps are same.
so i have 4 pumps. in these 4 pumps at lease 70 % child parts are same.
so to avoid inventory i am planning to implement common / alternative materials task.
in PP module it is possible but in Sales i am not find alternative item field available.
i am implementing this scenario to avoid unnecessary inventory.

In PP module:
You have option to use the "Planning Material" option in MRP3 view of MMR". It addresses your requirement. Because sales requirement could be for anything within B,C,&D but requirement / planning should happen for A.
This actually PP requirement. Nothing to do in Sales order- What i assume.
Did you discuss with your PP consultant. Hope with this Planning material, they will be able to fix this requirement.
As per your post,
I dont think, you want the system re-determine the Material A in place of B,C & D in sales order.
Your focus is more on planning related, not from the distribution perspective- am i right?
