PCo 2.1 buffering capability for MII environment

3 questions related to connectivity and buffering between the plant floor historian and MII:

1. If a customer intends to use PCo 2.1 on a separate wintel box polling 5 minute average data from an OSIsoft PI Server and it loses connectivity for 20 minutes to the PI Server box, does PCo "know" to go back and request older data lost during connection interruption?

2. If the PCo box is collecting PI Server data every 5 minutes and loses connectivity with the MII server for 20 minutes, does PCo automatically buffer the 5 minute average data and send all data when it reconnects to MII?

3. Can the PCo application run on a wintel cluster: is it "cluster-aware"?

Hi Carol,

1. for polling scenarios to retrieve data from PI via PCo to MII you would choose MII to retry data retrieval if for some time window data is missing. PCo helps you to monitor the PCo - PI connection and reconnects with a configurable time window. So you could define for example a 30 seconds time interval for connection checks and a number of retries to reopen the connection.

2. PCo only buffers data in notification scenarios and is able to resend any events triggered from PI in case MII was not available for some time. Any polling is triggered and re-triggered from MII. PCo does not have a scheduler for polling and so does not collect data on its own.

3. PCo works with MS Cluster. The single PCo nodes need to be configured separately - currently no configuration data is distributed automatically.
