Establishing OBDC connection to Oracle Database on 64-bit on Windowss 7

I am trying to set up the OBDC connection to Oracle Database on 64-bit for Crystal Reports 2008 on Windows 7. I understand there is a separate area to configure in syswow64 folder, but connections seem ok. Does the OBDC connection need to also be setup in the Administrative tools area - are there are special setting that need to be setup to make it connect?

you are not allowed to directly connect to your Oracle database as per your SAP license.

Read your license agreement.

Even when trying to set up a 3-party crystal viewer on a 64-bit computer, I am receiving the same connection error as with Crystal Reports. Here is the error:

Failed to open the connection.

Details: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
