Syntax error "ZBRAND_NEW_FIELD has already been declared"

I am getting a strange syntax error when adding a brand new field to the TOP include of a user exit.

Specifically, in program ZXAUFTOP:

data z_kauf like kauf. "same problem using TYPE

I know the field hasn't been declared anywhere in the main program or any of its includes.

I even tried to putting a non-sensical field name, like Z123HFD4, and I still get the same syntax error:

"Z123HFD4" has already been declared

We are on ABAP release 701 patch level 6.

I thought that there would have been some guidance available here regardless of the location of the problem. Maybe I missed that part of the guidelines.

In any case, the developer had the Include entered twice in SAPLXAUF. So any time a variable was defined we got that error.
