HI does anyone know if an oracle upgrade is possible using in place or out of place method from oracle nine to oracle 11.2
I am struggling to find any info on this on the forums and on OSS. Any ideas
Hi,
not 100 sure if we are talking about the same, but in SAP all upgrades are OUT of place. with this I mean that you must create a new oracle home, if your question is different, please clarify it.
Read the upgrade manual that can be found on http://service.sap.com/instguides, there you have the complete details.
SAP also supports upgrade to oracle 11g from 9.2.0.8, not only from oracle 10g.
Again, read the documentation it is quite clear, not sure why you do not find it.

Hi,
the SAP recommended way is to upgrade from 10.2.0.4 or later 10.2.0.5 to oracle 11g.
SAP did not test the other procedures and therefore the notes strongly recommends to do it this way.
Check Metalink for other possible paths. It is the same as we had with the 8.1.7 to 10.2. situation.
You could do that directly as well, but SAP also recommended to go via 9.2.
If you decide to do your own way, you may have trouble getting support from SAP.
I do not understand, why you even consider to do an inplace upgrade for a major release change?
It might work, but what else than confusion you will get when running 11g from /oracle/SID/920_64 ???
