There are so many suggestions and discussions around how points should be awarded etc., that this suggestion may already have been made, so please forgive me if I am duplicating it.
Similar to what sites like http://stackoverflow.com/ do, it would be good to allow other users to vote for the answers to a question. This is important for two reasons:
1) The person who poses the question often forgets or abandons their post
2) Other people searching forums for answers will be able to see more easily whether the thread contains a useful solution
Also, it is important that answers can be voted down. (Similar e.g. to brainstorm.ubuntu.com etc.)
Consider the following example (this happens frequently) where someone posed a question, and two respondents simply copied and pasted something from help.sap.com without properly understanding the question:
You are right. There have been numerous discussions and suggestions on the points system. The stackoverflow idea has also been discussed before. But the problem is that, it's just not so easy to have such a drastic change.
Anyways, welcome to group of points-bashers

Martin,
Agree with what you have suggested, I would say SCN forum search actually shows the icons whether the thread contains usful answers or not but it totally depends on the thread owner as if he has forgot to assign ponits then SCN forum search is helpless.
I would further suggest to post your idea in the [Idea place|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/idea-place] and promote the same on SCN under this thread.
Respectful forum members can vote in favor or against the idea at idea place and sooner we can see the results.
Regards,
Pushkar
P.S. : There might be an idea already available on Idea place for simillar suggestion, Please look for the same first. (I am going to check it right now)

It seems there is already a similar idea there: https://ideas.sap.com/ideas/1461
I will just include my post here in the comments there. Many thanks for the hint!
