ECM - Data migration

Hello PLM gurus,

I have a few questions on working with ECM during data migration. We are in an ECM enabled environment. We are trying to load materials, BOM etc etc as part of migration testing.

ECM is enabled for materials and also that we wanted to load the materials with the current revision numbers in Legacy to SAP. Now we are planning on using one ECM number and dump all materials in its object records and load them.

However when we tried to cut and paste the material numbers from excel it is only allowing us to paste 25 ata time. Since we have thousands of materials it is not practical to keep on pasting 25 materials at a time.

Can anyone suggest an automated solution which would be more faster than a BDC. May be a FM or BAPI etc.

Though this is a reply to a old Query, but would like to provide some inputs ..

ECM Data Migration is a challenging especially when u have large no of Material master (probably 50000 + ) to be assigned with revision.

we have in the past done ECM data migration for Revision assignment to material master but have always developed a program using BDC recording / or using standard BAPIS.

we would need to maintain xls / flat file formats templates for the mass upload

The easier way is to do a recording using SHDB & With some technical ABAP help develop a report prog for the Mass upload.

Always remember to sort the material in the upload file this speeds up the process of data migration.

of course u would need to creat a change master & assign the change number to the upload prog.
