Hello,

there are basically two major lines of SAP NetWeaver:

- SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (including its Enhancement Packages EHP1, EHP2 and possible future ones) represents the consolidation platform. Its primary purpose is to serve as technology foundation for the SAP Business Suite 7 and all innovation introduced by SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and its EHPs is intended to support SAP Business Suite innovations provided via SAP Business Suite Solutions Enhancement Packages (e.g. SAP ERP 6.0 EHP5).

- SAP NetWeaver 7.x with x>=1 (including its Enhancement Packages, e.g. SAP NetWeaver 7.1 EHP1) represents the integration platform. Its primary purpose is to serve as technology foundation for the integration between arbitrary systems and services. SAP Business Suite Solutions do not run on top of SAP NetWeaver 7.x technology with x>=1.

Basic takeaway from this is that whenever you run any SAP Business Suite Solution your underlying SAP NetWeaver will currently be SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and the release of the underlying SAP NetWeaver will always be ruled by the release of your SAP Business Suite Solution. Example: If you run SAP ERP 6.0 EHP4 your underlying technology stack will always be SAP NetWeaver 7.0 and if you install EHP5 for SAP ERP 6.0 you will implicitly install EHP1 to SAP NetWeaver 7.0. There is no way to install SAP NetWeaver 7.0 innovations through EHPs without adapting at least parts of the innovation introduced by the related SAP Business Suite Solution EHP.

I hope this helps a bit. Best Regards, Christian Hölters, SAP Development.

Hi Victor,

there is no reason to upgrade the kernel from 700 to 710 unless you upgrade you system from 700 to 710 (which is most likely a PI system then). The 710 kernel is not downward compatible to 700 and cannot be used to run with 700 based systems.

upgrading Netweaver 7.00 to 7.10 is not really an option.

wait until 7.30 gets out.

another option is to upgrade to 7.01 using enhancement pack 1 for netweaver.

do not use a 7.10 kernel on a 7.00 or 7.01 system.

Victor,

there is not "Netweaver 2004s 7.10".

7.10 is a different kernel released used mainly by PI and some exotic other products.

What is the reason you want to "upgrade" such a system?

No is posible.

You can aply EHP1 to Sap Netweaver 700. The PI 7.10 works in Sap Netweaver Aplication Server ABAP 7.10, but It isn't Sap Netweaver 7.10

Hi Victor,

as 7.10 is not downward compatible to 7.00, this is not supported and therefore not described.

7.20 next summer will be the DCK Kernel for 7.00 & 7.01 & 7.02 ...
