Hi,
I have an new SAP ECC6 installation on Windows 2008 + Oracle 10G DB.
Can I know what kind of Windows 2008 disk volume shall I use for this platform?
Basic Disk volume or Dynamic Disk volume?
Sorry , I'm not expert in Windows platform.

Please check this link about different between Basic and Dynamic volume.

As i know, dynamic disk is used when you want to use striped, spanned, RAID using Microsoft features.
Anyway i usually user basic for disk where OS resides, and use dynamic for others.

We used all the Basic disk at the end.

Hi,
Can I know what kind of Windows 2008 disk volume shall I use for this platform?
Basic Disk volume or Dynamic Disk volume?
Basic Disk with Basic Volume(s) contains only BASIC partitions like Primary Partition and Logical partitions within Extended Partition. Its commonly used storage type in windows environment since long time.
Dynamic Disk with Dynamic Volume(s) are advance approach of Storage type (than BASIS Disk/Volume storage type) since windows 2000. It contains all the features of Basic Disk/Volumes with some additional dynamic features. Dynamic Features like , one can create Stripped Partitions (create volumes on multiple hardisks) (RAID-5 level partitions), Mirrored Partitions, etc..etc.. which are not possible to create in BASIS Disk/volumes types.
Refer this useful link [Working with Basic and Dynamic Disks in Windows 2008 |http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd163552.aspx] and [Implementing Disk Management in Windows 2008|http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd163556.aspx] to get more detailed information.
But, If the allocated Disk(space) is already a part of Clustered volumes from SAN Storage, etc. then you can continue with BASIS disk/volumes type, because the presented Disk to the system is already a part of some storage with some RAID levels configurations.
