Hi Seshu

We will take your scenarios

1) File To File

So you will have two system sender and receiver and to these system communication channels will be assocaited.

So flow will be

<b>File picked from your source directory ( done by file adapter set under your communication channel)</b> -> <b>receiver determination </b> -> <b>Interface determination(in this your interface mapping will be called if required)</b> -> <b>File kept in your target diractory(Agina by your file adapter set under your receiver comm.channel).</b>

2) <b>File picked from your source directory ( done by file adapter set under your communication channel)</b> -> <b>receiver determination </b> -> <b>Interface determination(in this your interface mapping will be called if required)</b> -> <b>IDOC adpater which will convert it compatible to R/3 and Finally IDOC will be posted.</b>

But IDOC posting you require to define your sender's system logical system name.

SLD , System Landscape Directoy is a central repository of the systems. where you can maintain all the systems ( thirdparty/SAP systems etc) in your landscape

For more refer here-

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/43/01ea90ab24235de10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm

For BPM refer here-

http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/1c/287842f9e03654e10000000a155106/content.htm

You can tell execution of process, executing the interface triggering the process etc.

I thought, provided SAP help documents will clear you the questions.
